'Brave' 6 year old girl rescues kitten from drain
When firefighters couldn't rescue a kitten from a storm drain, six-year-old Janeysha Cruz stepped up. She's now making headlines all over the US and says: "they call me famous"
Fully-grown firefighters in Pennsylvania were too big to rescue a kitten from a storm drain...but a six-year-old girl proved to be just the right size.
Crews from Lancaster Township responded when Janeysha Cruz and her friends saw the trapped animal and called 911.
She was lowered down into the dark tunnel and managed to bring the frightened animal back up to the surface. Her mum, Jennifer, praised her daughter's bravery, "I didn't expect that she was going to do it, but she loves to help people, so I'm used to that part. I just never expected her to go down and she just did it. It was amazing."
Her story has since made headlines across the US. Janeysha spoke to Dotun Adebayo on Up All Night on 5 Live, saying, "I was a little bit nervous, but I was happy to save it - so I grabbed it." On her newfound celebrity status, the six-year-old added, "They call me famous and my teacher shared it with my class."
The kitten has since been adopted.
