Mum: I felt 'cultural pressure' to pierce daughter's ears
A mother said she felt "cultural pressure" to pierce the ears of her daughter, who is half Jamaican.
Sonia Poulton, whose three-year-old daughter removed the piercings after a couple of weeks, said: "With hindsight I'd never do it again".
She said as well as the lack of informed consent, there was "a lot of snobbishness" surrounding the issue of ear piercing with a lot of mothers considering it "a bit common".
Labour MP Mark Tami has told the Guardian he will raise the issue in parliament after a petition to ban ear piercing for babies and toddlers gained over 28,000 signatures.
