Christopher Lee: The last of the barnstormers
The director, Joe Dante describes Sir Christopher Lee, who's died aged 93, as the last of the barnstormers.
Alongside Peter Cushing and Vincent Price, Sir Christopher was, Dante says, the sort of actor who gave a "juicy performance in a juicy role" and had his name above the title because people wanted to see him on the screen.
Dante directed Lee in 'Gremlins 2', in 1990 and they became friends.
Sir Christopher starred in over 200 films and his combination of height, dark-complexion and sepulchral voice meant he quickly earned the sobriquet "The Crown Prince of Terror".
Lee became one of the world's most recognisable actors through his association with Hammer Films, whose success began in 1956 with The Curse Of Frankenstein, and long career which took in, in recent years, the hugely successful 'Lord of the Rings' series and a part as a Sith Lord, Count Dooku, in the Star Wars films.
