Shop owner remembers 1996 Manchester bomb
5 Live Daily looks back at when a massive IRA bomb devastated a busy shopping area in central Manchester, in June 1996. Two hundred people were injured in the attack, mostly by flying glass, no-one died.
The bomb exploded at about 1120 BST on Corporation Street outside the Arndale shopping centre.
As part of the "I was there" feature on 5 Live Daily, Peter Allen spoke to Roy Snook who owned a jewellery shop in the city centre, and felt the blast. He said the explosion happened on a lovely sunny day and thought it was a false alarm, but then "there was an almighty bang, it was quite remarkable, I remember being a spectator watching it all".
