Just over half of final year students think they鈥檝e seen value for money for the 拢9,000 a year they're effectively being charged for tuition fees.
In a Comres report for 5 live Daily, 1,004 students were surveyed on whether they felt the fees were value for money. Those graduating this summer are the first to do so since tuition fees trebled to 拢9,000 for those stating in 2012.
The survey revealed 65% of science, technology, engineering and maths subject students said their education was value for money, but only 44% of humanities and social science students felt the same.
Richard Nichol, a student from Derry studying for his law finals, told 5 live Stephen Chittenden his degree鈥檚 value would be apparent in ten years鈥 time.
鈥淢y tuition has come up to 拢27,000 and my maintenance loans from the government are around 拢10,000鈥 said Nichol. 鈥淏ecause of the way its set up I will never see that future income. It鈥檒l just be ripped from my future income over the course of my life.鈥
鈥淭o get an appreciation of value, I鈥檇 have to have the money in the first place. I think not having gone to university would have been a real mistake 鈥 even if it had been even more expensive,鈥 he added.
