"The world's most out of hand school project" aiming to clean our oceans
Boyan Slat, the 20-year-old founder of The Ocean Cleanup, talks to Dominic Laurie about his plans to clear the world's oceans of plastic pollution with a 100km-wide floating barrier.
The initiative, which started as a school project and with 300 euros of pocket money, went viral on the internet and raised $2.2m in a crowd-funding campaign last summer. A 2km-wide pilot project is planned for the waters between Japan and South Korea next year.
