Bishop, Expenses and School Auction.
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
Memories, tributes and farewells have been pouring into Radio Leicester over the last week as the Bishop of Leicester says goodbye to the City. The Right Revered Tim Stevens became Bishop in 1999, and this weekend he retires. There's been another rise in the total annual amount that Leicestershire's county councillors have claimed in expenses. Figures published by County Hall show a total just over 898 thousand pounds was claimed by the 55 councillors. That's an increase of 4,772 pounds on the previous year-on-year. And for an authority still facing massive budget reductions over the next four years, while stating that it's already comparatively under-funded...this isn't good news. A huge victorian organ, a stuffed bird collection and Edwardian gym equipment! Sounds like a collection of props from the set of Harry Potter rather than what you'd find in a Leicestershire school. But it seems like we have our very own Hogwarts in Hinckley as they're just some of the fascinating items being auctioned at Mount Grace High School this weekend.
