There were the 2012 London Olympics of course ... and who can forget last year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Now our region too has proved it's no duffer when it comes to organising competitive sports, following the successful completion of the East Yorkshire Care Home games.
The games are a legacy of the London Olympics and pitch care homes from Hull and the East Riding against each other. It was eventually won by Westwood Park Care Home in Beverley as Chris Arundel reports ...
