'It would be great to get more nominations'

The new 拢20 note should represent British culture's diversity, the Bank of England's chief cashier has said.

Public nominations will close this Sunday in a poll for a figure of historic significance from the visual arts to replace the image of economist Adam Smith on the note.

Chief Cashier Victoria Cleland told Today there had been 18,000 suggestions so far - including Barbara Hepworth, Beatrix Potter and Alexander McQueen.

"It would be great to get some more nominations."

This is the first time the Bank has conducted a public consultation on the design of a bank note.

An advisory committee will decide from a long list of 434 candidates as to who will feature on the new note, which will go into circulation in 2020.

You can submit your nominations at the Bank of England's website.
