'I just happened to be there, it was a privilege to take the photo'
The image of a Syrian man embracing his family in the immediate aftermath of arriving on the Greek island of Kos has gone viral, and for many has humanised the struggles that migrants face to reach the relative safety of Europe. Laith Majid, his wife and two children made the perilous journey across the sea from Bodrum in Turkey along with 11 other migrants in a rubber boat that was leaking air. Daniel Etter is the photographer who captured the moment for the New York Times.
