Ealing is a London suburb with a particular claim to fame: the film studios located there. Today Ealing Studios are a thriving facility for hire, but their most celebrated era ended sixty years ago this summer. It was the end of a long string of classics such as Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Ladykillers, very British comedies which nonetheless found an international market. But if Ealing films are long gone, does their somewhat frugal spirit live on? Our arts correspondent Vincent Dowd reports.
