Virtual reality headsets to help New Zealand bus drivers
In Christchurch New Zealand the main bus station was demolished following an earthquake in Feb 2011 that killed nearly 200 people. Just recently, a sparkly new bus interchange was opened. The layout requires buses to drive in, drop passengers and then reload for the next trip. This involves some tricky reversing, a challenge for many bus drivers, and this is where digital technology is able to assist. Virtual reality is an easy way to let drivers navigate their way around the new bus station from the comfort and safety of an office chair - no scraped buses, broken mirrors and even better no injuries! Click鈥檚 Simon Morton went for a virtual day on the buses. His first stop was to meet bus driver Mandy Lawrence from Red Bus who never imagined playing with gaming technology as part of her job.
