Matthew Kelley: Fantasia for Strings
Matthew is 16 and from Worcester. He plays piano, organ and violin, and started composing 3 years ago. Matthew’s favourite genres include Jazz music, both ‘trad’ and modern, and Classical music, especially twentieth century English composers such as Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Britten.
In 2015, Matthew was selected from hundreds of entrants as one of the winners in the Junior category of the Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition. His winning piece, Fantasia for Strings, was performed by Aurora Orchestra, conducted by Nicholas Collon at a Proms Extra event at the Royal College of Music on 28 August 2015.
