Metgod: It's a "Disaster" if the Dutch Don't Qualify
After losing 1-0 to Iceland in Amsterdam, the Netherlands' hopes of automatic qualification for Euro 2016 hang in the balance.
The last time the Netherlands failed to make the Euros was also the last time the finals were held in France, back in 1984. And the symmetry continues because in qualifying it was their failure to beat Iceland that ultimately proved to be their downfall.
The former Real Madrid and Netherlands international defender John Metgod was part of the last Dutch team to miss out on the finals 30 years ago and told me that the 2016 host nation are proving to be a bad omen.
