The PageRank algorithm was invented by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in the 1990s and was the key to why the first incarnation of the Google search engine was so successful.

Marcus du Sautoy shows how the algorithm can be used to rank players of a football team. The demonstration was completed with the help of mathematician Dr Javier L贸pez Pe帽a and volunteers from University College London.
