How a symphony can be used to tell a story. Sir Edward Elgar, a British composer, gave a lecture in 1905 on symphonies. He claimed a symphony without a programme was the highest level of art. He also claimed Brahms Third Symphony was the best example of its kind. That symphony and its structure is explored in the programme.
