Reactions to the Debate on FGM
Acclaim for a positive telling of how Icelandic women fought for equality. Surprise over hearing rare voices on the network. And questions over the panellist for a debate on FGM.
Next month, the 大象传媒 will hold a Global Questions debate on the subject of women and equality in Africa. One of the issues to be discussed is Female Genital Mutilation 鈥 and whether it can be considered a choice. In a social media post 鈥 the 大象传媒 announced that anthropologist Fuambai Sia Ahmadu who co-founded the group, 鈥淎frican Women are Free to Choose鈥 would be taking part. But many of you in the global audience felt that the conversation surrounding FGM has moved on from the issue of consent and feel that this choice of spokesperson is not suitable.
The 大象传媒鈥檚 Witness programme also recently commemorated 40 years since the women of Iceland took part in a nationwide strike as part of their fight for equality. With Iceland鈥檚 first female president Vigd铆s Finnbogad贸ttir recounting her fond memories of the movement, many listeners enjoyed the programme鈥檚 celebratory tone.
And you react to the sound of rare voices in the telling of migrants鈥 stories.
