The Inquiry: Have we Underestimated Plants?
Plants are far more sophisticated than you might think. They can respond to more than a dozen different stimuli and even make what look to some like complex 鈥榙ecisions鈥.
New research suggests plants might be capable of more than many of us might expect. Some 鈥 controversially 鈥 even describe plants as 鈥渋ntelligent鈥, or even 鈥渟entient鈥. In this excerpt from The Inquiry, Professor Daniel Chamovitz - Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University - explains how plants, despite not having brains, are able to make 鈥渄ecisions鈥 and exchange information. He warns that failing to understand how plants work could have devastating consequences for the human race.
