The Value of Music on the World Service

In recent months, three new music programmes have been on the World Service airwaves. Rajan Datar asks the global audience whether they have struck a chord.

Should the World Service be an entirely speech-based network? That is what some listeners have been calling for in response to three new music programmes being added to the schedule. But for many others it is a welcome change to hear a variety of melodies in between the news coverage. Two new programmes which have particularly got the world audience talking are 大象传媒 Music with Cerys Matthews which explores music of all genres and regions, and 大象传媒 Introducing with Huw Stephens which takes a closer look at the big, upcoming British acts. Rajan Datar hears how listeners have been responding to these programmes and puts your feedback directly to presenters Cerys Matthews and Huw Stephens.
