Do Asians still believe that getting cancer is down to karma or bad luck?
A new study suggests cancer is overwhelmingly a result of environmental factors and not largely down to bad luck. It highlights the usual suspects such as smoking and sunbathing too much, but also says that lack of exercise and a poor diet are also to blame. Walking more and even spending more time in green areas are recommended as things we should be doing. But is there an over riding attitude within the Asian community that getting cancer is simply down to bad karma, or being deeply unlucky? Is there still the belief that getting a terminal illness is somehow down to god? Two callers whose family have suffered from cancer share their stories with Nihal.
