In Leicester just 1% of the population are currently active blood donors. That sees us behind the national average of 3%, although the NHS says it currently isn't too concerned as there is plenty of stock. But, it does say that in the future it will need younger people, and those from black and asian communities to come forward. 大象传媒 Radio Leicester's Manish Verma reports.
Also, Grace Road, Welford Road, the King Power Stadium. Today, Leicester has a new addition to its list of sporting arenas! The Leicester Riders basketball team will be returning to the city this weekend, after playing in Loughborough for the last couple of years. They'll be playing at the newly built Leicester Community Sports Arena, which opens its doors today. And 大象传媒 Radio Leicester's Helen McCarthy is there this morning.
And, if you went into a green-grocers, or even a pub, and asked for Foxwhelp or Brown Snout or Porter's Perfection, what would you be asking for? The answer: they're all Old English apples - specifically used in cider-making. The National Trust has just taken on a collection of three hundred different varieties - with the aim of saving them for future generations.
