Minister: UK 'playing its role' on child refugees

The UK is to accept more unaccompanied child refugees from Syria and other conflict zones - but the government has not said how many.

Speaking to the Daily Politics, Home Office minister James Brokenshire said the government would work with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees 鈥渢o identify those who are orphaned, those who are separated in the region鈥 and how they may come to UK 鈥渁s a consequence of that鈥.

Asked to give a number, he said he could not because 鈥渋t is a question of establishing a family connection within the UK.鈥

The minister said there would also be a 拢10m fund to provide 鈥渄irect support鈥 to child refugees in Europe, adding that the government was 鈥減laying its role鈥.
