Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim: St. Clare's Hall

St Clare’s Hall in Manorhamilton in County Leitrim tells a typical story of how some young Irish men found themselves fighting at the front. Months before the war started, more than 200 men came here to form a local corps of the Irish Volunteers in response to the creation of the Ulster Volunteer Force. Many went on to enlist in the British Army, sometimes against their families’ wishes. Local historians Margaret Connolly and Dominic Rooney explain the part played by St Clare’s.
