Still kowtowing after all these years
A recent photograph of a Chinese man kowtowing to his parents started a debate about this ancient way of showing respect. To kneel and touch your head to the ground was part of the Confucian tradition of honouring elders and rulers. Raymond Li of 大象传媒 Chinese reflects on the survival power of the kowtow.
