International Women's Day, The Crescent & The LCFC Earthquakes

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

The University of Leicester has been named and shamed in a new report which claims its one of the worst in the country for paying its female staff less than males. The University and College Union (UCU) says that female academics at the University of Leicester get almost 拢10,000 less than their male counterparts. That equates to more than a 21% pay gap between men and women at the University, and ranks it 5th worst in the country. A statement from the Uni says that all staff are treated on the basis of their merits and abilities.

Also, "There's plenty more to come." That's the promise from the developers behind Hinckley's the Crescent, one of Leicestershire's biggest town centre transformations in recent years. Opening in December it brought a supermarket, restaurants, shops, and a brand new cinema too. But since its grand opening, a number of units remain empty. Its led to some scathing criticisms from a few people in the town who claim that its just been a big waste of money!

And, Leicester City's success in the Premier League this year is sending out shockwaves, literally! Geology students at the University of Leicester have discovered excited Foxes fans have been sending out minor tremors when their side scores a goal. The last minute winner from Leo Ulloa against Norwich registered a 0.3 magnitude earthquake! And that's not the only time it's happened. Richard Hoyle, a first year student at the University, tells us more.
