There's been a mixed reaction to government plans introduce a tax on sugary drinks.
The move was announced yesterday by Chancellor George Osborne, as part of his budget statement. He says it will bring in 500 million pounds in taxes when it's introduced in two years time. 大象传媒 Radio Leicester's Helen McCarthy has been asking people in Leicester if they drink fizzy drinks, and whether the move will make a difference, and we also spoke to Keith Vaz MP about his reaction.
Government plans for all schools to be forced to become academies are being criticised this morning by a senior city councillor in Leicester.
It would mean all schools getting their funding direct from the department of education, rather than going through their local councils.
But Leicester's Deputy mayor Rory Palmer has raised concerns about accountability. Well one of those academy trusts that Rory is talking about is based here in Leicestershire. The Discovery Schools Trust, based in Kibworth, looks after 10 schools across Leicester and Leicestershire. We were joined by it's Chief Executive, Paul Stone.
A Leicester man is making an urgent plea for help this morning - after his beloved dog was stolen from his house.
Gareth Wilson came home on Tuesday to find his door smashed in and Pippin nowhere to be seen. The small black Yoodle - a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a poodle - is 15 and has serious health issues. Gareth has put up a reward and hundreds of people have joined the search on social media.
