Is the Panic Over?
With bouncing oil and bouncing markets, are forecasts of an imminent global crisis now behind us? Plus Jamaica predicts its own bounce-back, and Kellaway on working too hard.
Amidst a tumbling oil price and tumbling markets, some analysts in recent weeks have been predicting a return to global economic crisis. But now it seems there's been a reverse. Oil is suddenly back, touching $40. We read the runes as to whether the forecasts of disaster are now behind us, and ask Ewen Cameron Watt, a senior director at Black Rock investment institute, what if anything has changed. Also on the programme, after many years of austerity, we hear a report about the perennial economic pain of living life as a Jamaican, and ask whether a new government can change things. Also, Lucy Kellaway of the Financial Times joins us to ask, is it time we all slowed down, relaxed and stopped working so hard?
