Operation Moses

Why the return of Ethiopian and Russian Jews to Israel caused controversy

'Operation Moses' was the airlifting of 6,500 Ethiopian Jews to Israel in 1985, under the 'law of return' which allows anyone who has a Jewish grandparent to become an Israeli citizen. Under the same law, thousands of Jews from the former Soviet Union arrived in Israel. However, integration did not go smoothly, as the programme discovers.
