Meet Dame Edna
Jonathan Lampon chats to Barry Humphries about his relationship with Dame Edna Everage.
In 1956 a new TV star was born.
She went on to become a global megastar, performing the world over but always had a special place in her heart for us here in the UK.
The old adage goes that behind every successful man is a strong woman. In this case, however, it was Barry Humpries that hid in the shadows of his creation Dame Edna Everage.
From this evening (16th March) a new series of 'the Interviews' begins on the Gold TV Channel.
Each episode of this brand new series follows the career and personal story of legendary celebrities from the world of comedy and showbiz, using their most memorable moments from British TV chat shows and beyond.
Barry Humphries, best known for writing and playing his on-stage and television alter egos Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson -- talks about his best interview experiences, his career, the relationship between himself and his most famous creation of all time.
Jonathan had the honour of talking to him ahead of the programme and began by asking if - when he first looked in the mirror and saw Dame Edna - whether he knew the instant success she would go on to become.
