The Cairo journalist who spied for Israel
Spies, by their very nature, are supposed to exist in the shadows. But now the descendants of a woman who played an important role in the formation of the state of Israel want to shine a spotlight on her work. They have produced a documentary on the life of Yolande Gabai de Botton. She used her social connections and role as a journalist in her home city of Cairo to gather intelligence for Haganah, the Jewish paramilitary organization, which eventually became the core of the Israeli Defense Forces. Her granddaughter Miel de Botton is the producer of Yolande, an Unsung Heroine. Weekend's Anu Anand asked her how her grandmother became a spy.
