The story of the BMX-riding Granny
Australian Gran Irene Markee is aiming to qualify for the 2017 BMX World Championships.
The 64-year-old from Sydney took up the sport in her 30s after encouragement from her daughter, then aged 15.
She admitted that when she started riding in the 1980s "it was difficult racing girls that were a similar age to my daughter鈥, but still races now three decades on, having helped get a ladies BMX class introduced.
She also describes her worst injury in the sport as a "nasty concussion after landing on the handlebars" last year - but that will not stop her quest to be selected for next year's World Championships in California.
