Nobel Prizes for identifying HIV, explaining Broken Symmetry, and a green protein

This year's Nobel Prize winners and their work

This year's Nobel Prizes for physiology/medicine has been awarded for the discovery of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and the discovery that human papilloma viruses cause cervical cancer. The physics prize goes to the theory and mathematical explanation of broken symmetry. The prize for chemstry was won by the discoverers of the green fluorescent protein, GFP.
Research compares genomes of two malaria parasites to work out how they pass on infection. Plus, people with religious faith seem to endure pain better. Factfile: oldest fossilized footprints found.
