Maryam Zandi is one of Iran's most respected photographers. Nowadays, she's best known for her portraits of artists and celebrities, but she's also captured some of the most momentous events in Iranian history. During the Islamic revolution of 1978 and 1979, Maryam went onto the streets of Tehran to document the mass protests which culminated in the overthrow of the Shah. Her striking images were only published for the first time earlier this year.

Through an interpreter, Maryam told Matthew Bannister more about her life at the time of the revolution.
