How important was the 1979 visit of Polish Pope, John Paul II, to the rise of Solidarity?
In April 1989, Poland's communist leaders and the Solidarity trade union reached an agreement which ended communist rule. However, the beginning of the transformation of Polish society can be seen in the visit in 1979 of the Polish Pope, John Paul II.
