Government defeated in Lords over child refugees

The House of Lords has defeated the government again over calls to take in child refugees from Europe.

On Monday, an amendment to the Immigration Bill tabled by Lord Dubs - who was one of the Czech children rescued from the Nazis during the Second World War - was defeated in the Commons.

But on Tuesday peers voted in favour of a second amendment, which would force ministers to arrange the relocation of unaccompanied minors who have made it to Europe into the UK, with the total number to be decided by the government.

Lord Dubs told Ritula Shah why he thought ministers were so reluctant to accept his proposals.
