Adams N-word: 'he's lost perspective'

The Sinn Fein leader, Gerry Adams, has been forced to apologise for using the N-word in a tweet, which has now been removed.

He said he wanted to draw a parallel between the plight of Irish nationalists in West Belfast during the Troubles and slavery in the US, after he watched a film about the abuse suffered by African-Americans.

Bonnie Greer is an African-American author and broadcaster who grew up in Chicago. Tim Brannigan's mother was Irish, his father Ghanian, and the writer and former Republican prisoner was raised in West Belfast. They say Mr Adams is mistaken.
