1907 Stanley Spencer sketchbook revealed
John Spencer who is the grandson of English painter, Sir Stanley Spencer said that he is discovering that his grand father is not the person he thought he was.
A sketchbook by Sir Stanley, from 1907, which contains the earliest known examples of his work has been discovered by his family. It will form part of a new exhibition at the Hepworth Wakefield opening next month to mark the 125th anniversary of his birth.
Mr Spencer, who is compiling material to write his grandfather's biography, and Eleanor Clayton, curator at the Hepworth Wakefield presenter, told Sarah Montague what they were discovering about the artist.
