Dana's victory and the power of Eurovision
Dana represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1970. At the time, Northern Ireland was in the midst of The Troubles, with the British Army on the street and daily running battles. Although Dana came from Northern Ireland, she sang for Ireland. Her victory thrilled people from both sides of the border and showed 'the power of Eurovision to overcome political differences'.
