Britain and the Sun
Britain has recorded its summers in diaries and poetry for hundreds of years. Samuel Pepys described sleeping on the grass beside a canal in July,1666. In his daily letters to his lover in the summer of 1711, Jonathan Swift recorded his desperate attempts to cool himself down. In the late 18th Century, British seasides became the place to visit. Now, Britain welcomes summer with picnics, music festivals and a suntan.
