Live From Brazil: Is Rio Ready?
This edition of Business Matters comes from Rio de Janiero in Brazil where we look ahead to this year's Olympics.
Presenter Jon Bithrey travels to Rio de Janiero in Brazil to look ahead to this year's Olympics. He is joined by sports journalist Marcelo Barreto from Globo Television and our regular guest Ralph Silva, from Toronto in Canada.
In the famous beach resort of Copacabana he speaks to the sunseekers to see what they think about the Olympics coming to Rio.
Although there is a lot of positive sentiment around, not everyone is convinced that Rio is the best place to hold the Olympics at the moment. He finds out why from some residents of Vila Autodromo.
We go on a tour of the Olympic Park, in Barra Da Tijuca, one of the newest and richest parts of Rio. It is where the aquatics centre, velodrome, tennis and various other competitions will be held.
It is everybody's dream to take part in the Olympics, right? Well it's about to come true for the children of two Rio favelas. The 大象传媒's Benjie Guy went to meet them.
Competing in the Olympic Games is a pretty big moment for any athlete but when they are being held in your own country, alongside the pride, comes a bit of extra pressure. We hear from Brazilian sailor Isabel Swan. She won an Olympic bronze back in Beijing in 2008 and is hopeful of success in front of her fellow Cariocas in Rio.
And what is it like being the Mayor of Rio De Janeiro? The Olympics are coming, the eyes of the world are on you and there is a multitude of problems to deal with. We hear from the Mayor, Eduardo Paes.
