Coming out of 30-year retirement to win Gold
Carolyn MacDonald was a champion synchronised swimmer 30 years ago. She came out of retirement last year to compete in the Masters European Championship, and won Gold.
"The last European medal I won was in my twenties. It's been a ridiculous amount of time, about 30 years, since I last won."
"I've been swimming with my partner, Andrea Holland, who was my duet partner in 1979. We were 4th in the world."
"I've been doing other things like a career, children and grandchildren. But this year in January she persuaded me to get back in the pool."
"We had 5 months of training, building up to twice a day, and then last weekend, we competed against the rest of Europe in our age group - and we won."
