The Lampedusa Carpenter Carving Crosses from Shipwrecks
Many of the thousands of migrants and refugees who risk the perilous journey to Europe every year do so in boats heading for the Italian island of Lampedusa. Francesco Tuccio is a carpenter there - and started carving crosses from the shipwrecks washing up on the island. His small wooden crosses are given to those arriving people in a gesture of solidarity. Now one of his crosses is being displayed in the British Museum in London.
