Cello

See the cello in a new light as Sol Gabetta performs Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor.

A 300-year-old instrument becomes a screen in this unique film. Infrared cameras track the cello’s position allowing a digital projection to stay locked onto its surface as it moves.

The spotlight falls on the cello again at this year’s ´óÏó´«Ã½ Proms. The 2016 season includes ten cello concertos, starting with Elgar's much-loved composition performed by Sol Gabetta on the First Night.

Elgar's Cello Concerto was his last major work and is a national treasure. It only became widely popular in the 1960s when a performance by Jacqueline du Pré caught the public imagination and became one of the best-selling classical recordings of all time.
