Both sides were desperately disappointed to miss out on a place in the final after defeats in the semis to Brazil and Italy respectively. Champions in 2012, Russia have claimed medals at the last four Olympics and will hope to continue that impressive record. USA on the other hand arrived in Rio as favourites after their World Cup triumph in 2015 but narrowly missed out in a five-set thriller against Italy.
