Annette and Paul: Living with Parkinson's

A husband and wife discuss the ways that his Parkinson's has changed their life together.

Directed, filmed and edited by Oliver Sherlock - Bristol School of Animation, UWE Bristol - May 2016.

A husband and wife work out the ways that his Parkinson's has changed their life together.

Oliver says, 鈥淚 chose to create a film for Paul and Annette鈥檚 conversation because I really enjoyed the parallels between Paul鈥檚 pessimistic outlook and Annette鈥檚 optimistic approach to the disease. I also thought it was great to show that Parkinson鈥檚, while being a terrible disease, is not the end of your life and I think Paul and Annette really pay testament to this. I was inspired by silhouette puppet shows and I thought it would be quite interesting to experiment with live action actors against a green screen on a 2D digital background. I enjoyed Paul鈥檚 line about not being able to use chopsticks and Annette鈥檚 response, 鈥楥hopsticks aren鈥檛 essential to life鈥. This really sums up the whole mood of the conversation and gave me the idea of setting the film in an Asian cuisine restaurant - as if the conversation was taking place over dinner.鈥
