Liz Nicholl: Olympic sport is funding 'a partnership'
UK Sport Chief Executive Liz Nicholl explained how the levels of funding for Olympic cycles are decided, and what UK Sport believe their investment should contribute to.
"If you're surrounding athletes with world class support, there is a correlation between the number of athletes and the amount of money that is needed in terms of coaching, sports science, sports medicine, competition costs, training costs. All that is covered by our strategic investment in the sports," Nicholl said.
"It's a partnership in terms of the investment and the way we work with sports," she continued.
The media in a number of countries have been asking what lies behind the success rate of British athletes at the Rio Olympics, with the large number of medals won by the cyclists of Team GB drawing additional attention.
