Former coach on Brownlees’ sibling rivalry
Triathlete Alistair Brownlee secured Britain’s 20th Olympic gold medal of the Rio Olympics, with his brother Jonny claiming the silver. 28-year-old Alistair, who is two years older than his brother, pulled away from his sibling halfway through the 10k run.
Coz Tantrum was their swimming coach for four years when they were teenagers, and they still keep in touch to this day. She told 5 live Breakfast’s Nicky Campbell about the pair’s close bond, and why Alistair claimed the gold ahead of his younger brother.
“He thinks more outside the box, he takes risks,” she said.
Ultimately though, she believes their relationship is key to their success:
“I don’t think either of them would be as successful if they hadn’t had had each other”.
