Roman Road

Recently a 大象传媒 Radio Leicester listener contacted us convinced he'd discovered the route of an old Roman road which ran through our patch.

Tim Norton, who works as a night porter at Ragdale Hall, was sure he'd found a line which went from the east coast right through Rutland and North East Leicestershire, and up to Cheshire, rivalling the Fosse Way in length.

He'd been studying maps and Google Earth, and had been looking at the sites of Roman discoveries.

But the discovery which tipped the balance was a 12 page paper about Rutland's history written in 1871 by the Rev John Howard Hall.

In it, he describes the Road which was traceable 150 years ago.

大象传媒 Radio Leicester's Talking History presenter Dave Andrews was intrigued and asked Tim to take him on a tour of the various sites the road may have passed.
