Should cats be kept indoors? Or if you do want to take them out, they should be on a lead. That's the view of an American "bird focused" scientist, Dr Peter Marra who is director of the Smithsonian Migratory bird centre in Washington DC.
But not everyone agrees. Dr John Bradshaw, who is a visiting fellow at the University of Bristol has researched the behaviour and welfare of domestic cats. He says to keep a cat indoors that's used to being outside is cruel.
