Ukrainian culture in the Donbass
In 2014, Slovyansk in Ukraine was briefly occupied by pro-Russian rebels. It's in the Donbass, a largely Russian-speaking region at the heart of fighting between pro-independence rebels and government forces. Anastasiya Gabonova of 大象传媒 Ukrainian was born there, and was surprised to discover a flourishing of interest in Ukrainian language, arts and culture since that occupation, driven in part by the staff of the library.
